Available data indicate that finasteride does not reduce fertility in young, healthy men. Some studies showed a decrease in the sperm volume, sperm number, and morphology, but this was always reversible after drug discontinuation.
However, for men who already have decreased fertility, finasteride can further decrease fertility, and it is recommended to temporarily stop treatment before conceiving. For patients with a history of varicoceles, or other conditions that can reduce fertility, a spermiogram is recommended before starting treatment.
There are no known risks in taking finasteride if your partner is pregnant. However, it's always best to speak to your obstetrician about any medications you're taking and what interactions they may have.
